Brissie based babe Amy Sheppard is a singer and song writer and one third of the chart-topping band "Sheppard" and she was kind enough to take the time to share with us what a day on her plate looks like.
o What's the 4-1-1 on you?
I’m Amy Sheppard- founding member of Brisbane pop band ‘Sheppard’. I sing and song write and am fortunate enough to have a full-time career in music. It can be tricky to stay fit and healthy on the road and I enjoy getting creative with paleo recipes and snacks.
o Do you have a morning ritual or habit? What does that look like?
I find it extremely hard to have routine in my life. In my line of work, no two days are the same. Some mornings I need to be up at 2am for hair and makeup for a morning show and other days I try and sleep in as long as I can. If I have time off, I usually wake up at 7:30, I read at least 10 pages of my book and then hit the gym.
o What you eat on an average day for breakfast, lunch, dinner and any snacks?
If I’m not on tour, my average day goes a bit like this: I wake up at 7:30 and drink a large glass of water (I’ll add lemon juice to warm water if I remember). After I shower, I make myself a cup of bulletproof coffee and read at least 10 pages of my book. If I’m hitting the gym, which I do 5 out of 7 mornings, I will dig into a small bowl of primal granola (Paleo Hero’s Primal Choc Granola is my favourite). This usually gives me the energy to perform to my best ability without feeling too heavy and full. If I’m not training in the morning, I usually whip up some bacon, eggs and spinach. I will have pea protein shake for morning tea or some beef jerky if I’m in a rush. Typically, I end up having lunch around 2pm as the protein fills me up for most of the morning and early afternoon. For lunch, I opt for protein and salad. I often make a Moroccan inspired cauliflower, spinach, red onion and roasted chicken salad. As the afternoon munchies begin to hit, I have a paleo “Fat bomb” to satisfy my sweet cravings or I have celery sticks with almond butter or homemade dip. For dinner, I love to get creative. I love to make Paleo Pizza, Zoodle dishes and slow cooked lamb. I try to skip out on dessert but if I really feel like something, I make a bowl of warm berries and add a dollop of cream. For those of you wondering about my training regime, I do 3 metabolic sessions and two weights sessions at Function Well.
