What is Intuitive Eating?

Imagine living free from dieting and knowing that just by listening to your body you can achieve your health goals? No counting calories, no restrictive eating, no need for “cheat days” and not feeling guilty about food.

You may have heard about the non-diet approach of ‘intuitive eating’ but what exactly is intuitive eating and how can it help you to achieve your health goals?

In its simplicity, intuitive eating is listening to your body. This means to become aware of its signals that can tell you what to eat, when to eat and how much to eat. You are born an intuitive eater where as a newborn you eat when you are hungry and you stop when you are full. As we grow into children we then fluctuate our eating according to our energy needs. We don’t follow restrictive meal plans or eat to a clock. 


When you become an intuitive eater, you tune into your body, eat when you are hungry and respect when you are full. You begin to learn what foods leave you feeling your best by listening to how it responds and how much your body needs each day based on its energy needs. By doing so your body naturally finds its balance, in health and in weight. You are left feeling energetic, healthy and happy.
Imagine that? Living freely to enjoy foods, without ‘good’ and ‘bad’ foods and still reaching your goals.

 

Why is it beneficial?
Intuitive eating helps you to reconnect to your body’s most natural way of eating, returning to your innate ways of nourishing it. It encourages you to let go of the dieting mentality and instead to turn inwards to find your body’s unique needs and help you to find freedom with food.

This leads to an unhealthy or negative relationship with food which can keep us feeling trapped like we can never achieve our goals without being on a diet. Intuitive eating works because it will help you discover a life-long positive relationship with food. When you respect what your body already knows, listening and learning to trust yourself, you will find your healthy balance.
