OAT FREE APPLE CRUMBLE

Is there anything better than the smell of a hot apple crumble wafting through the house on a cold wintery night?!

We love baked fruit desserts as they are full of natural, real food ingredients are and one of the easiest desserts to turn into a clean and healthy addition to a family feast.

We've kept our apple crumble grain, gluten, dairy & refined sugar free, using our Primal Muesli instead of oats for an extra crunchy and crumbly topping - this won't last long once it's out of the oven!

Things you Need
Serves 4
  • 5 medium granny smith apples - peeled, cored & diced 2cm cubes
  • 1/3 cup coconut sugar
  • 2 tbs lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
For the Crumble Topping
  • 1/2 cup Primal Muesli
  • 1 cup almond meal or buckwheat flour (your preference)
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 3 tbs coconut sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla paste
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • coconut yoghurt to serve

Method

Combine diced apples, 1/3 cup coconut sugar, lemon juice & 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon in a saucepan.

Place over a low heat until apples start to release their juices. Stir and simmer for 20 minutes until the apples have softened. You should able to just get a fork through them.

Pour into an oven safe pie dish and set aside.

Preheat oven to 180C.

To make your crumble topping, add your Primal Muesli to a food processor and pulse to make a coarse crumb. This will give you a more traditional crumble topping texture - you can skip this part if you prefer a chunkier topping.

In a bowl, combine muesli crumb, almond meal or buckwheat flour, coconut oil, coconut sugar, vanilla paste and cinnamon and mix well. You should have a wet, crumbly mix.

Spread your crumble topping evenly over your apples and bake in the oven for 30 - 40minutes until your topping is golden brown and your apples are bubbly around the sides.

Leave to cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Top with a dollop of coconut yoghurt your favourite ice cream if you're feeling like a real treat.
